I attended the University of Texas at Austin where I earned a Bachelor’s in Social Work in 1996 and a Master of Science in Social Work in 1999. I also met and married my husband Jason that same year so it was a big year in my life! He and I have been through many ups and downs in our 20 years together, but I can look back and see that much of our marriage has been filled with joy and I am grateful for his constant love and support. We have four children together, 17 year old identical twin daughters, a 14 year old daughter, and an 11 year old son. We cherish family time together and enjoy traveling and adventures like camping and skiing. It was earlier in my life where I found my passion for social work as I felt inspired by my father who seemed to dedicate his life to serving those around him. He died tragically in an accident when I was 16 and this trauma in my life also pointed me in the direction of becoming a psychotherapist. In my grief, I learned the literal meaning of “a broken heart” and developed a deep compassion for others experiencing heartache. Part of my journey in helping others through their pain has also been healing for my own journey with grief, and that has filled me with deep gratitude for the trust that my clients have placed in me and the way they have also touched my life. I love the imagery of a sunrise in that it is a daily reminder that with each day comes a new opportunity to make choices we can feel good about and renew our commitments to the values we hold and the people we love. My favorite Beatles song is “Here Comes the Sun” and it is a good summary of my own feelings about helping others and helping myself.
