Affordable ear infections treatments and consults Stamford, CT

Ear aches can be very painful. There are several types of ear infections that can cause ear aches in children and adults. Ear infections can typically be treated by a family medicine doctor and do not typically require seeing a specialist like an ear, nose and throat doctor.

One type of ear infection occurs when fluid builds up in the middle ear without being infected and without causing fever, ear pain, or pus build-up in the middle ear. When the outer ear canal is infected, the condition is called swimmer’s ear, which is different from a middle ear infection.

For mild cases of middle ear infection, your general practitioner or family doctor might recommend watchful waiting or delayed antibiotic prescribing.

          About ear infection

Otitis media - more commonly known as an ear infection - is an infection of the middle ear. The middle ear is an air-filled cavity that sits behind the eardrum and is responsible for transmitting sound from the outer ear to the inner ear.

Ear infections are usually caused by a bacteria or virus and are more common in children than adults. The most common symptoms are ear pain and a fever. You may also recognize an ear infection by drainage or fluid coming from the ear, balance problems, hearing problems, or if your child is pulling at their ear or being fussier than normal.

Children who suffer from recurring infections or persistent fluid in the middle ear should receive regular check ups to avoid any damage to their hearing or other complications. Talk to your doctor to establish a protocol for keeping you or your child safe and healthy.
