Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that can cause redness, visible blood vessels, and acne-like bumps, typically on facial areas like the cheeks, nose and forehead.
Common symptoms of rosacea include:
- Facial redness (erythema)
- Visible blood vessels (telangiectasia)
- Red bumps and/or pimples
- Dryness
While the exact causes of rosacea aren’t known, both your medical history and your environment can impact flare-ups. Common triggers include cold weather, spicy foods, alcohol, sun exposure, or even health conditions like high blood pressure.
Growing evidence also suggests that Demodex mites (tiny organisms that live on your skin) can increase your likelihood of developing rosacea.
