About Sesame
Frequently asked questions
What are virtual appointments?
Virtual appointments are medical visits that take place over face-to-face video.
What types of services can I offer virtually?
It is up to the provider to decide if they can provide treatment for a specific service through virtual appointments.
What is the virtual appointment experience like for patients?
After a patient books, they will receive an email with a link to join the virtual appointment. They will also be able to access this link in another reminder email they receive 30 minutes prior to the appointment start time, as well as within their account.
What if I don’t have a camera?
When a patient books an appointment, they will also include a telephone number where they can be reached if there are any issues connecting through video cameras. Please note that it is preferred for a provider to conduct a virtual appointment over a face-to-face video, but we understand this can be a limitation. For providers who don’t have access to a camera, we ask that you clarify this in your service listing to set proper expectations with patients.
Can I stop doing virtual appointments after COVID-19 if I am no longer interested to do so?
Yes, you can switch your appointment offerings to in-person only at any time.
Will it be clear the appointment is virtual to the patient?
Yes, the service listing will be clear the appointment is virtual prior to the patient booking the appointment. Communications leading up to the appointment time will also reiterate the appointment is virtual.
What should I do if the patient needs lab work?
National lab chains will still accept standard lab orders via fax or online portal. Patients can confirm with the lab regarding scheduling for in-person collection. COVID-19 lab orders are generally not being collected at Quest and LabCorp locations.
How much will it cost me to offer virtual appointments through Sesame?
There is no cost to you for offering virtual appointments through Sesame. You will receive 100% of the price you set, minus the cost of credit card processing and electronic funds transfer (3.49% maximum), for a total of at least 96.51% of your set price. See the terms of service for more information.
What technology does Sesame's video visit platform use?
Sesame's platform is web-based and mobile-friendly. Neither you nor your patients need to download any apps, and Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS devices can all use the platform - but we recommend using Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Apple Safari for best compatibility. (Avoid Internet Explorer.)
Does Sesame provide malpractice insurance?
Yes. For video visits conducted using Sesame's platform, Sesame provides malpractice coverage. Once you reach out using the "list your practice" tool above, our provider success team will reach out to provide full policy details.
Note: Sesame still requires all providers to have active malpractice coverage for at least one other setting of care (either independently, or via their medical group/employer), but if your malpractice coverage does not cover telemedicine visits or any independent practice, you will be covered by Sesame's policy for providers.
