What is avanafil?

Avanafil is a prescription medication used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It works by increasing blood flow and oxygen to the penis, making it easier to get and maintain an erection. Though avanafil helps treat ED, it neither cures the condition nor increases sexual desire. Avanafil does not protect against the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or prevent pregnancy.

What is avanafil used to treat?

Avanafil is prescribed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men.

It is important to note that avanafil does not increase sex drive, nor is it a cure for the underlying causes of ED. It increases blood flow to the penis, which encourages an erection during sexual stimulation. It is also important to note that stimulation is required for avanafil to work. An erection cannot be attained, even after avanafil use, if the penis is not stimulated. Avanafil will not cause an erection on its own.

Avanafil will not protect against sexually transmitted diseases or prevent pregnancy.

How does avanafil work?

Avanafil belongs to a classification of medications known as phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. These medications prevent the breakdown of a naturally occurring biochemical in the body known as cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). Increased levels of cGMP improve the relaxation of blood vessels, making it easier to achieve and maintain an erection.

Even though avanafil increases blood flow to the penis, it cannot cause an erection by itself. Stimulation is required for the effects of avanafil to work.

How do I use avanafil?

Avanafil is available in the following forms:

  • Oral tablets

The dosage and frequency of use will depend on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking. It is crucial to follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding dosage and administration.

  • Take avanafil as needed, usually about 15 to 30 minutes before sexual activity.
  • Do not take more than one dose in a 24-hour period.

Consult your healthcare provider for specific instructions on how to use Avanafil properly.

How long until I see results?

Avanafil is used to manage erectile dysfunction (ED). The effects can be noticeable within 15 to 30 minutes, allowing for spontaneous sexual activity. The duration of the effect can last up to 6 hours.

Continue using avanafil as directed by your healthcare provider. It is important to follow the prescribed regimen to achieve the best results.

Are there other uses for avanafil?

Avanafil is primarily used for treating erectile dysfunction. It is not typically prescribed for other conditions.

Discuss any potential alternative uses of avanafil with your healthcare provider if you have questions or concerns.
