Risedronate is a prescription medication primarily used to treat and prevent osteoporosis and other bone conditions in women after menopause and men who have osteoporosis. It is also prescribed to men and women to increase bone density who are taking glucocorticoids (corticosteroids that can cause osteoporosis).
Risedronate belongs to the drug class known as bisphosphonates and is available under the brand names Actonel and Atelvia. Generic versions of risedronate are also available.
