Before starting treatment with hyoscyamine, inform your healthcare provider about any existing medical conditions, allergies, or other medications you are taking, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and dietary supplements, as they may interact with hyoscyamine.
You should specifically mention any history of:
- Glaucoma
- Heart disease
- Liver, kidney, or lung disease
- Urinary or intestinal obstructions
- Ulcerative colitis
- Myasthenia gravis
- Hyperthyroidism
- High blood pressure
If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, consult your healthcare provider before using hyoscyamine to assess potential risks and benefits.
Hyoscyamine can cause drowsiness. Because of this, you should not operate a motor vehicle or heavy machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
Caution should be used when exercising and during hot weather. Hyoscyamine can decrease the amount of sweat your body makes, making you more prone to overheating and heat stroke.
Avoid alcohol while taking hyoscyamine, as it can increase the severity of side effects. Avoid taking antacids within 2 hours of hyoscyamine.
