Clomiphene is generally taken five days in a row toward the beginning of your menstrual period. Ovulation doesn’t occur while you’re taking the medication, however, from your first dose your body begins working towards producing an egg. Ovulation generally occurs 5 to 10 days after taking the last clomiphene pill.

Because clomiphene has been shown to increase risk of ovarian cancer, it should not be taken for more than 6 menstrual cycles in a row. Talk to your provider about the proper dosage of clomiphene and the risks associated with taking it.

Clomiphene is commonly supplied as an oral tablet. The typical starting dose is one 50 mg pill a day for five days in a row. It is usually taken toward the start of a menstrual period.
