What are common side effects of methylprednisolone?
While adverse reactions to Methylprednisolone are rare, some patients who take the drug may experience mild side effects including upset stomach, stomach irritation, vomiting, headache, dizziness, insomnia, restlessness, depression, anxiety, acne, increased hair growth, easy bruising, and disrupted menstrual periods.
Rare, more serious side effects have been known to occur, including skin rash, swollen face, lower legs, or ankles, vision problems, long-lasting colds or infections, muscle weakness, osteoporosis, or black or tarry stool. If you are experiencing these symptoms, contact your provider immediately.

Once taking Methylprednisolone, it will be a few days to a few weeks before you begin to feel the effects of the drug. How long you take Methylprednisolone will depend on the condition you are treating.
Methylprednisolone is taken as an oral tablet. The dosage may vary from 4mg to 48mg per day, depending on the condition being treated and its severity. The initial dosage will be maintained or adjusted until your doctor determines that the desired result has been achieved. After your doctor notes your favorable response to methylprednisolone, they will determine a maintenance dose by gradually decreasing the initial dosage until the minimal effective dose is determined. Generally, it will be prescribed for as short a period as possible while still providing relief. You should continue to take Methylprednisolone (even if you begin to feel better) until instructed otherwise by your doctor. If a dose of Methylprednisolone is missed, you should take another dose as soon as you remember.
