Tinidazole is prescribed to treat various infections caused by bacteria or parasites. This includes:
Tinidazole belongs to a class of medications known as nitroimidazole antibiotics. It works by interfering with the DNA synthesis of bacteria and parasites, ultimately killing them and resolving the infection.
Tinidazole is available as an oral tablet. It should be taken with food to reduce stomach upset.
The time it takes to notice the effects of tinidazole will vary depending on the type and severity of the infection being treated. Most patients start feeling better within a few days after starting treatment.
If you have been taking tinidazole for several days and aren't feeling better, talk to your healthcare provider. Do not increase your dosage. If you are feeling better, do not stop using tinidazole until your provider directs you to do so.
Take tinidazole for as long as your provider tells you to.
Tinidazole may also be prescribed off-label for certain conditions or infections (like urethritis). Discuss any alternative uses with your healthcare provider.
Tinidazole is available as an oral tablet or suspension.
It is available under its generic name, tinidazole.
Tinidazole is only available via prescription. You must have a written prescription from a licensed healthcare provider to obtain this medication.
