Entacapone is a medication used to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease. It belongs to a class of medications known as catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitors that help improve the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, specifically those caused by dopamine deficiency. It is used in combination with the medications levodopa and carbidopa to treat shaking palsy symptoms (commonly referred to as “wearing-off” symptoms) in patients with Parkinson’s.
Entacapone is available under the brand name Comtan and comes in the form of a tablet to take by mouth.
