Dr. Akua Agyeman, MD PhD MPH, is a board-certified Internal Medicine and Pediatrics physician who specializes in comprehensive care for acute and chronic conditions affecting patients from cradle to grave, and has been practicing for over 15 years. She offers care in English. Dr. Agyeman is able to treat symptoms of acute illnesses such as upper respiratory infections, fever, and viral syndromes, as well as functional medicine concerns including adrenal dysfunction, hypercortisolism, gut dysbiosis, hormonal imbalances, and metabolic disorders. She addresses symptoms like chronic fatigue, poor sleep quality, low energy, stubborn weight gain, brain fog, hair loss, digestive issues, and low libido. My passion for medicine stems from a deep curiosity about how the body works as an integrated system, not just isolated symptoms. I pursued both an MD and PhD because I wanted to understand disease at the molecular level while maintaining the human connection that makes medicine meaningful. What I love most about working with patients is being a medical detective—piecing together the puzzle of why someone doesn't feel well and creating a personalized roadmap back to optimal health. What sets my practice apart is my combination of hospital medicine expertise with functional medicine principles. I bring the rigor of academic medicine alongside a root-cause approach that looks beyond just managing symptoms. My training spans multiple disciplines—internal medicine, pediatrics, pharmacology, which allows me to see the whole person and understand how different body systems interconnect. I believe in meeting patients where they are, explaining complex concepts clearly, and partnering with you to optimize your health for the long term, not just putting band-aids on problems.
