What is propranolol?
Propranolol is a prescription medication that is primarily prescribed as a treatment for high blood pressure (hypertension). It may also be used as a treatment for irregular heartbeats (arrhythmia) chest pain (angina), severe migraines, pheochromocytoma (tumors on the adrenal gland), hypertrophic subaortic stenosis (a thickened heart muscle), anxiety, and tremors. It can also be used to reduce the risk of death after a heart attack occurs.
This medication helps relax blood vessels and increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart. Propranolol may be prescribed alone or in conjunction with other medications as a treatment for hypertension. In addition to medication, you may be prescribed certain lifestyle changes to help control blood pressure (such as exercise and dietary adjustments).
