Do I need proof of a prior prescription?

Depending on the medication, some Sesame providers may require proof of a prior prescription before refilling it. Your provider may ask to see a picture of an old pill bottle or check for previous prescriptions from another Sesame provider. In some instances, your Sesame provider may also be able to access a national pharmacy system to see prescriptions from non-Sesame providers.

How can I get a prescription fast?

Booking an appointment with a doctor or nurse online is typically the fastest way to get a prescription! Sesame offers same-day online doctor prescription and prescription refill appointments with board-certified healthcare professionals. If deemed clinically necessary, Sesame providers can provide prescriptions and prescription refills for most non-controlled substances. They can also provide you with a doctor’s note if necessary.

Most online prescription and prescription refill appointments take around 15 minutes, and providers are able to send a prescription to a pharmacy of your choice right after your appointment.

Can I obtain refills for multiple prescriptions on Sesame?

It depends! Sesame providers can typically assist with refilling 1-2 existing prescriptions during a prescription refill appointment. If you require additional medication, your provider may require a longer or additional visit so that there is time to adequately review and assess your medication needs.

How many refills can I get from this visit?

Prescription refills are up to the discretion of your provider. If you’re a new patient, most providers will write a prescription for 30 days and may want to schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure that the medication is effective. If you’re a returning patient, your provider may prescribe for a longer period of time.

Can you get a prescription refill at a different pharmacy?

Yep! If you request a prescription transfer, you can easily move your prescription from one pharmacy to another. Plus, many pharmacies now offer mail services for home delivery. Here's how to request a prescription refill at a different pharmacy:

1) Call your new preferred pharmacy to request a transfer.

2) Provide that pharmacy with health insurance/ prescription info

3) Wait for the prescription to be transferred before you pick it up. It usually takes pharmacies a few days to transfer a prescription, but you will get a notification once this step has been completed. Either go pick up your prescription in person or set up home delivery.

Sesame is able to prescribe a wide range of common medications for conditions like infections, diabetes, asthma, hypertension, high cholesterol, and more. However, we are unable to prescribe controlled substances and medications that are at risk for abuse.

Please note that prescriptions are always at the discretion of your provider. Provider appointments are designed to evaluate your condition and craft a treatment plan that works for you. If your appointment does not result in a prescription, your appointment is non-refundable.

Does Sesame offer discounts on prescriptions?

Yes! The SesameRx program offers access to hundreds of FDA-approved generic medications starting at just $5 for a 30-day supply - plus free delivery! Just have your Sesame provider check whether or not your prescription is available through the SesameRx program during your appointment. If your Sesame appointment results in a prescription, we’ll send you an email and text right afterward to complete your purchase.

You can also save up to 80% on prescription medications with the Sesame Prescription Savings Card, which can be used at 35,000+ locations across the country, including major chains like CVS, Walmart, Walgreens, Albertsons, Kroger, H-E-B, Hy-Vee and Wegmans. All you have to do is show the card to your pharmacist when picking up your prescription to confirm whether it can be used at your pharmacy. The best part? Your Sesame savings card works for everybody - friends, family, and co-workers - even if they've never used Sesame before.

What is SesameRx, and how does it work?

SesameRx is a prescription service that makes it easier and more affordable than ever to get prescription medication sent right to your door. We offer hundreds of FDA-approved generic medications starting at just $5 for a 30-day supply - delivered right to your door for free.

  1. Book and complete an appointment with a doctor, specialist, or provider who can write prescriptions through Sesame. Look for the "$5 med" tag on the provider card.

Sesame is not a pharmacy. As part of its prescription services, Sesame facilitates the delivery of prescription medication by its partner, Truepill pharmacy. Please refer to the Sesame terms of service for further information.

Do I have to use SesameRx?

Nope! Our feelings won’t be hurt if you’d prefer to pick up your prescription or prescription refill at a local pharmacy. After booking your appointment, you’ll be prompted to choose your pharmacy preferences. Simply select your pharmacy of choice instead of SesameRx! You can also discuss your preferences with your provider directly at the time of the visit.

Can I use my insurance on Sesame?

Prescriptions and prescription refills on Sesame are exclusively cash-pay. We do not accept insurance for the provider appointment or the medication. If a clinician sends your prescription to your local pharmacy, you can pick it up and pay with a method of your choice, including your FSA or HSA card, prescription card, cash, credit, and more.

However, Sesame clinicians can assist with insurance prior authorization specifically for patients who book a weight management service through Sesame’s online weight loss management program.

How much will my medication cost me at my local pharmacy?

You’d be shocked to learn how much pricing can vary from pharmacy to pharmacy for the same medication! Luckily, you can use tools like SingleCare to check the cost of your medications and compare prices at major chains like Walgreens, CVS, and Kroger.

If your medication is unavailable through SesameRx, you can also use the Sesame savings card to save up to 80% on prescription medications. It will be sent to you via email after your appointment and works for one-time and recurring prescriptions. Simply show it to your pharmacist at the time of pickup to activate the discount!

Do online doctors and providers on Sesame prescribe controlled substances?

No. Clinicians on Sesame can prescribe a wide range of medications as treatment for infections, allergies, and other ailments (such as blood pressure medication). However, doctors and nurses on Sesame will not prescribe any medication listed as a controlled substance. This includes opioids and narcotics. Check out DEA.gov for a detailed list of medications that are listed as controlled substances.

Can I have my existing prescription from a non-Sesame provider transferred to SesameRx?

No, Sesame does not currently allow existing prescriptions to be transferred from non-Sesame providers to SesameRx. If you have an existing prescription or prescription refill through a non-Sesame provider, it cannot be filled through the SesameRx program. Instead, you will need to schedule an appointment with a Sesame provider in order to obtain a new prescription. Please note that prescriptions are up to the discretion of individual Sesame providers.

How can I get a prescription refill without a doctor or nurse practitioner?

It is not legally possible to get prescription medications online without a prescription from a doctor or nurse practitioner. However, you can see a provider virtually - via telehealth - to write most scripts without seeing a doctor or nurse practitioner in person.

At Sesame, we make speaking with a healthcare provider about writing a first-time online doctor prescription or prescription refill easy, convenient, and inexpensive. Simply book an appointment with the doctor or nurse practitioner of your choosing. If clinically appropriate, the provider can write the script and have it sent to the local pharmacy of your choice within minutes of your appointment.
