Yes. If clinically appropriate, a provider on Sesame can write a prescription for insomnia. Commonly prescribed medications include low-dose antidepressants, melatonin receptor agonists, and prescription antihistamines.

However, it’s important to note that controlled prescription sleeping pills like zolpidem, eszopiclone, and benzodiazepines are not prescribed on Sesame.

You may have insomnia disorder if you regularly have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or wake up earlier than you’d like and can’t fall back asleep. It’s also common to feel tired, irritable, or have difficulty concentrating during the day as a result of poor sleep.

If these sleep issues happen at least three nights a week and last for several weeks—or keep coming back—they may indicate insomnia. A healthcare provider can answer your sleep questions and help determine whether your symptoms are short-term (acute) or longer-lasting (chronic) and recommend appropriate treatment.

Sleep apnea is a physical condition that causes disrupted breathing during sleep. Insomnia disorder, on the other hand, is a broader term that may cover any condition in which people have trouble falling or staying asleep.

In some cases, sleep apnea may be a secondary cause of insomnia and insomnia may be a symptom of sleep apnea. However, the conditions may also be completely unrelated.

The best medication for insomnia and anxiety depends on your symptoms and how long you’ve been experiencing sleep or anxiety issues.

For short-term relief, doctors may prescribe certain antidepressants, such as SSRIs or SNRIs, which can help treat anxiety and may also improve sleep over time. In some cases, medications like trazodone or hydroxyzine are used because they can address both anxiety and sleep difficulties.

The right choice is personal, so it’s important to talk with a healthcare provider to find a safe and effective option for you.

Online doctors on Sesame can prescribe certain kinds of sleeping pills, including low-dose antidepressants, melatonin receptor agonists, and prescription antihistamines.

However, online providers on Sesame will not prescribe any medication listed as a controlled substance. This includes certain sleeping pills like benzodiazepines (Ativan, Klonopin, Valium, Xanax), zolpidem (Ambien, Ambien CR, Edluar, Zolpimist, Intermezzo), eszopiclone (Lunesta) and zaleplon (Sonata).

Prescription sleeping pills, by nature, can cause drowsiness and fatigue. Do not take sleep medication during the day or before operating motor vehicles. It is also important to note that some sleep medications can be habit-forming. Talk to your doctor about all your available options before treating insomnia with medication.
