There are several options to treat general sexual issues or the shortage of quality sperm in men including:
- Lifestyle changes. Discontinuing certain medications, quitting smoking, eliminating alcohol, limiting caffeine, increasing the frequency of intercourse, exercising frequently, and eating a healthy diet can help improve important health factors that may affect fertility.
- Medications. Certain drugs can help increase sperm count and increase the chances of a successful pregnancy. These drugs have been shown to improve testicular function, which can lead to better sperm quality and production.
- Surgery. Depending on the condition, surgery may be able to undo a sperm blockage in the reproductive tract. Surgery may also help repair enlarged veins within the scrotum that impair sperm production and sperm quality.
- Sperm retrieval. If ejaculation is difficult or if there is no sperm in the ejaculated fluid, sperm retrieval can help collect sperm from other parts of the reproductive tract. Sperm retrieval may be used for in vitro fertilization or sperm injection procedures when sperm count is low.
