  • "Great experience! She was exactly on time, and she quickly and competently diagnosed the issue with my swollen finger, and immediately sent in the prescription electronically. About fever

A fever is an increase in your body temperature and is a common indicator that your body is fighting an infection. A normal temperature for most people (adults and children) is in the range of 97-99 degrees Fahrenheit. A fever occurs when the body’s temperature is over 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit. A higher-than-normal temperature without any other symptoms is not usually a cause for concern. In most cases, fevers are usually accompanied by other signs of illness including:

    • Chills and shivering
    • Sweating
    • Muscle aches and weakness
    • Headaches
    • Fatigue
    • Dehydration

A fever may be caused by several different health conditions. Common causes of fever include:

    • Viral or bacterial infections (including common colds, flu, and mononucleosis)
    • Bronchitis
    • Strep throat
    • Heat exhaustion
    • Urinary tract infections
    • Inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis
    • Some medications

Most cases of fever are easily treated and do not require much medical attention. However, a temperature over 102 degrees for children, or over 103 degrees for adults may signify a serious health condition. If you or your child has a fever over 102-103 degrees Fahrenheit or has had a fever for longer than 5 days, contact your doctor right away.

    Treatment Options

In most cases, a low-grade fever is easily treated with medication and self-care remedies. In more severe cases, or when a fever is caused by a bacterial infection, prescription medication may be needed to address the underlying health conditions of a fever. Below is a list of ways to care for a fever. During your appointment, talk to your health care provider about what treatment options are best for you.
