Ciprofloxacin should only be used when other medications cannot be used or are not available. There are two different kinds of UTIs: uncomplicated infections and complicated infections.
Uncomplicated UTIs typically resolve quickly with treatment and involve the bladder and urethra in healthy, nonpregnant females. Complicated infections are harder to treat and can cause fever, chills, back pain, nausea, and vomiting. They typically occur in pregnant women, men, and those with immune system problems.
For uncomplicated infections, the dose of ciprofloxacin is 250 mg to 500 mg every 12 hours for 3 to 5 days. For complicated infections, the dosage is typically 500 mg to 750 mg every 12 hours for 5 to 14 days.
