Betaxolol is a prescription beta-blocker used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), chest pain, and other conditions related to the heart and circulation. It works by blocking certain hormones, which causes your heart and blood vessels to relax and pump blood more slowly. This causes blood flow to improve and decreases your blood pressure. Common side effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, diarrhea, or tiredness.
Although the brand name for betaxolol, Kerlone, has been discontinued in the U.S., generic forms are still available and are prescribed in the form of an oral tablet. Betaxolol eye drops can also be used to treat ocular hypertension and primary open angle glaucoma.
