How to take lisinopril
Lisinopril is typically taken once daily as an oral tablet. For high blood pressure, a common starting dosage is 10 mg daily, but your healthcare professional may start you at a lower dose. To treat heart failure or after a heart attack, dosing often starts lower and is gradually increased. Always take lisinopril exactly as prescribed.
Before starting lisinopril pills, tell your doctor about any medical conditions, allergies, and medications or supplements you take. This includes potassium supplements, diuretics, NSAIDs, diabetes medications, and other blood pressure drugs. Be sure to mention conditions like kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes, or a history of angioedema.
While taking lisinopril, avoid potassium-based salt substitutes unless approved by your provider, and follow any low-sodium diet recommendations. Limit alcohol, as it can increase the risk of feeling dizzy. Quitting smoking can further improve heart health and help lisinopril work better.
Your provider will monitor blood pressure readings and kidney function throughout treatment.
Lisinopril is not recommended during pregnancy. Talk to your provider if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
