Aripiprazole side effects
Common side effects include headache, anxiety, restlessness, trouble sleeping, nausea, and constipation. You may feel drowsy or dizzy, especially when starting treatment. Less common side effects include weight gain, increased thirst, unusual muscle movements, mood changes, heartburn, dry mouth, or blurred vision. These symptoms may improve as your body adjusts.
Serious side effects are less common but require medical help right away. These include swallowing problems, trouble breathing, seizures, or signs of a stroke. Rarely, aripiprazole can cause a life-threatening reaction called neuroleptic malignant syndrome, with symptoms like fever, stiffness, and confusion, or unusual urges or behavior changes. This may include impulsive actions or worsening depression.
If you’re experiencing any side effects that are interfering with your daily life, talk to your doctor for medical advice. You may need a dosage adjustment or other change to your treatment plan.
